Therapist or recruiter?

Sometimes, my work feels more akin to that of a therapist than that of a specialist recruiter!

Luckily this is the part of the job I find most satisfying!

The impression I get is that many of the candidates and clients I speak to, are in situations where they either have no outlet to vent/ share…or are stuck in situations where sharing/ being open is very likely to be detrimental to their career.

It amazes me how so many 'leaders' miss such a huge opportunity to improve their employees' mental health, and the overall culture of the company, by simply creating a space where being honest isn’t penalised.

If you think about the best manager you’ve ever had…it’s probably someone who managed to do just this.

In this candidate-starved market, you can't just offer a big salary and a fancy title and expect people to jump at the chance. You have to show them that you genuinely care about their mental health and are willing to create a supportive environment for them to thrive in.

An opportunity to eliminate someone's source of stress, anxiety, frustration and/ or unhappiness is proving to be one of the best incentives you can use to encourage them to move jobs in the current climate.

When the pain of staying put exceeds the pain of moving, change happens.

But if you're stuck in a job that's making you miserable, don't wait until you're a few steps away from a mental breakdown to make a change.

Drop me a discrete message to arrange a confidential conversation, and we can see if there’s something much better out there for you.
