It’s grim up north!
Or at least it certainly can be!
Had some shocking weather up North recently...
It reminded me that a while back our local school had some extensive roof damage, with many roof tiles blown off.
Sadly, some serious damage was done £££
It made me think….
Did the school choose to solve this issue by instructing multiple roofing contractors to all clamber about up there at the same time...in the wind & rain;
- Fighting to prove their expertise
- Working at speed
- Grasping for the cheapest/ most available materials possible
- No concern for workmanship, fit or longevity
- No time for scaffolding…..a crappy old ladder will do eh!
*First to get the roof ‘fixed’ gets paid (90+ days after job completion no doubt).
NO!
Getting that school roof fixed so that it remained open/ undisrupted was a CRITICAL priority.
Speed and high quality workmanship were of utmost importance, which means, they partnered with the best company for the task.
Why then...when a company has a job vacancy due to an employee resigning/ retiring/ or worse, do some choose to ‘farm’ out the recruitment service to every man/ woman and their dogs!?
Every day/week/month that that gap exists in your company you are losing traction which will, at some point, either directly or indirectly, hurt your company.
Furthermore....a bodge job might as well be the proverbial twisted dagger.
It could be your market presence, brand awareness, reputation, customer service, productivity, quality, health & safety, or something as transparent as sales turnover.
If a sales patch brings in £1.2M of new business annually....
...every month that your patch doesn't have a sales rep on it, you’re losing £100k of new revenue.
EVERY MONTH!!
(I appreciate, a crude example)
So if paying an expert recruiter gets that vacancy filled a month quicker then the contingent approach, with a candidate that performs at a higher level, and stays at the company longer (because of a better cultural/ personal fit)…..surely that’s the smart move!
PARTNER WITH AN EXPERT.
